Coatings inspections are crucial to ensuring the longevity of any structure, and with ProQM you can assure your coatings inspections will be done to a high-level, NATA-accredited standard.
At ProQM, all of our inspections are accredited by NATA for protective coatings, and our scope of accreditation covers the VicRoads requirements and Australian and international standards for protective coatings.
When the coatings contractor is awarded the contract to apply protective coatings to specific items, ProQM is engaged to firstly review their quality management system and ensure that their traceability and Manufacturer’s Data Record (MDR) are populated according to the project requirements.
Following the blasting process, ProQM will inspect the coatings as per Technical Bulletin 48 (TB48). Under this guide, ProQM performs an inspection of the substrate, which includes profile measurement, the class of the blast, and testing for any substrate contamination. Once ProQM inspects the substrate, we can then give the approval to commence painting. During, and following each coat of paint, we inspect to ensure the application and finish are acceptable.
Factors such as the corrosion environment, steel structure design, and surface preparation and application methods can impact the coatings process. However, ProQM will work alongside the coatings contractor to ensure the coatings conditions are the best they can be to achieve a high quality finish.
Whilst testing, ProQM uses Elcometer equipment, specifically the Dewpoint Meter, to measure and record the necessary climatic parameters required to determine whether the painting conditions are suitable. The inspections will also involve assessing the dry film (coating thickness) and the surface profile, to test how these factors will impact the coating’s overall performance. ProQM inspectors will see that any surface contamination is analyzed, to ensure that there are no factors that will hinder the ability of the coatings to stick. Adhesion Testers and the ‘wet sponge’ method will also be used to identify any other defects, ensuring your coatings are of the highest possible standard.
ProQM will then conduct a final inspection, and depending on client requirements and project specifications, further testing may be required.

Over our time, working for some of the largest construction companies in Australia, as quality professionals, we constantly see small quality assurance departments expending their valuable staff members to visit their suppliers and contractors to ensure compliance with their project requirements, quite often leaving a hole within their team..
We believe that outsourcing these requirements to a company that has the expertise and knowledge, works efficiently and effectively and shares the same goals and values that you do, will enable your team to continue to focus on their roles within your company’s scope of work. We are committed to impartiality in carrying out all activities especially during inspections, proactively managing potential conflicts of interest and ensuring objectivity. Impartiality, confidentiality and independence are fundamental values within our business.
ProQM is passionate about our support and culture, and want to share our vision with you.
At the end of the day, Quality Inspections and Quality Control will save you money.
